“G” by Free Fall Apparatus – Advanced is a precision educational apparatus designed for the determination of acceleration due to gravity (g) by the free-fall method. It features an electromagnetic release mechanism, impact gate switch, adjustable mounting units, metal spheres, retort stand and digital timer for accurate experimental measurement.
The “G” by Free Fall Apparatus – Advanced is designed for accurate determination of the acceleration due to gravity using the free-fall method. The apparatus incorporates an electromagnetic solenoid release unit that holds and promptly releases a metal sphere when the power to the electromagnet is switched off.
A gate switch unit is positioned below the release mechanism. It consists of a hinged steel plate held against an adjustable electrical contact by a small magnet. When the falling sphere strikes the plate, it moves immediately and operates the contact, providing a precise stopping signal to the electronic timer.
Both the solenoid unit and gate switch unit are mounted on adjustable plastic supports that can be securely clamped to a 12 mm diameter retort stand rod, allowing convenient adjustment of the falling height. The system is supplied with metal spheres, retort stand and a digital timer for recording the time of fall and calculating the value of g.
Specifications:
Principle: The apparatus measures the time taken by a sphere to fall through a known height, allowing the acceleration due to gravity to be determined experimentally.
