Description

The Young's Modulus Apparatus – Searle's Pattern is designed for accurate determination of the Young's modulus of metallic wires by measuring their extension under an applied load. The apparatus employs the standard Searle's method, where the extension of the experimental wire is measured relative to a reference system.

The unit consists of two rigid iron frames, each provided with a ceiling bracket and self-centering chuck for securely holding the wires. One frame is fitted with a precision micrometer screw for measuring the extension. The micrometer provides a fine measurement resolution of 0.01 mm and incorporates a 0–10 mm main scale.

A sensitive spirit level is pivoted at one end to one of the frames, while its other end rests on the point of the micrometer screw mounted on the second frame. This arrangement enables small changes in the length of the test wire to be detected and measured accurately.
