“G” by Free Fall Apparatus is a laboratory apparatus designed for the determination of acceleration due to gravity (g) by the free-fall method. It features an electromagnetic release unit, impact-operated gate switch, adjustable mounting units, metal spheres, retort stand and digital timer for accurate measurement of the time of fall.
The “G” by Free Fall Apparatus is designed for the experimental determination of the acceleration due to gravity (g) using the free-fall method. It provides a simple and reliable arrangement for measuring the time taken by a metal sphere to fall through a known distance.
The apparatus consists of two functional units: an electromagnetic solenoid release unit and a gate switch unit. Both units are mounted on adjustable plastic bases that can be clamped securely to a 12 mm diameter retort stand rod.
The solenoid unit holds the metal sphere electromagnetically and releases it promptly when the power to the electromagnet is switched off. At the lower position, the gate switch unit consists of a hinged steel plate held against an adjustable contact by a small magnet. When the falling sphere strikes the plate, it moves promptly and operates the contact, providing the stopping signal to the digital timer.
The supplied digital timer records the time of fall, while the known falling distance is used to calculate the value of g.

Educational Use:
The apparatus enables students to determine g experimentally by measuring the known height of fall and corresponding time, providing a practical demonstration of free-fall motion and gravitational acceleration.
